LONDON, May 27 (UPI) — Restaurant chain Nobu has added warnings to the menus of its London locations advising patrons not to order the bluefin tuna because it is endangered.
The Japanese food chain altered its menu to include a note informing customers that the fish, which is included in meals that sell for up to $51.46, is “environmentally challenged” and requests the patrons “ask your server for an alternative,” The Daily Telegraph reported Wednesday.
Despite the warnings, foods containing bluefin tuna remain on the menu, angering some activists.
“They shouldn’t sell endangered species,” said Giles Bartlett, senior policy adviser for the World Wildlife Fund. “They should change their menu to incorporate a fish that’s sustainable and not one that’s critically endangered.”
