BANGALORE: Yelahanka police on Friday arrested three persons — one for performing stunts with endangered snake species and two show co-coordinators at a fair in the Yelahanka New Town ground. They were caught with two rock pythons, four spectacled cobras and three rat snakes.
The accused were arrested under the provisions of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 after five students of National Centre for Biological Science (NCBS) alerted police and BBMP wildlife authorities. The students came across one Satthy alias Sathyam, a native of Tamil Nadu, who was displaying the cobras while they were visiting the fair. Police arrested Satthy along with William and Anabangalam, the coordinators for the show.
“The snakes are now in BBMP forest cell’s custody and will be released after careful monitoring,” said Anup B Prakash, an NCBS student.
Satthy had allegedly caught all the snakes from the Satyamangalam forest. The accused are presently in police custody.
